Course Facilitators

Jane Appleyard, Grad.Dip.Phys, MCSP, Member of the Health Professions Council

Jane has been working as a physiotherapist for over 25 years. Over the last 10 years has specialized in pelvic floor physiotherapy for continence problems.

She has combined working in the NHS with private practice. Currently she is working as the Specialist Continence Physiotherapist with the Continence Advisory Service for Kirklees Community Health Care Service.

Jane has been responsible for training continence nurse advisors about pelvic floor assessment and physiotherapy interventions. She has undertaken training for physiotherapists about psychosexual issues. Clinically her interests are in female urinary incontinence and motivational interviewing techniques.

 

Joanne Whiteley R.G.N. Bsc

Joanne Whiteley is a Continence Specialist Nurse and Continence Service Manager for Kirklees Community Healthcare Services.  Joanne has worked in the speciality of continence for 9 years, in which time she has worked at Huddersfield and Tameside.  She has worked in her present role since May 2005.  Joanne a special interest in promoting continence, the neurological bladder and pelvic floor rehabilitation.  Joanne enjoys teaching and motivating others that work in the area of or have a special interest in continence. 

Joanne and Jane met on Dr Jo Laycock’s residential training course in 2000 in the Lake District. After the course we have given each other ongoing support which we both feel is important to be able to confidently use newly acquired skills.

Joanne is an active member of the Yorkshire region ACA, newly elected to the position of vice-chair.
